In response to the violent disturbances during the Durga Puja idol immersion in Cuttack, Odisha, a 36-hour curfew has been enforced under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 163, effective until October 7. The authorities aim to restore peace by closing all commercial establishments while keeping essential services like hospitals and schools operational.
Additional Police Commissioner Narasingha Bhola announced that 60 platoons of state police have been deployed, complemented by paramilitary units, including the Rapid Action Force and Border Security Forces. Bhola emphasized the police's commitment to maintaining order while stating that additional forces have been mobilized to crucial areas.
Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania urged residents to disregard rumors and verify information through official channels. Following the incidents of violence, which resulted in injuries to 25 individuals, including police officers, the situation remains tense but under control, with internet services temporarily suspended to prevent misinformation.
