In a significant operation, Assam Police, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, recovered a massive haul of illegal narcotics in Cachar district. According to officials, the operation led to the seizure of 10,000 Yaba tablets and 1.25 lakh packets of cigarettes valued at Rs eight crore.
Numal Mahatta, Senior Superintendent of Police of Cachar, stated that the sensitive operation was based on credible intelligence. Forces carried out the riverine operation against drug trafficking along the Assam-Manipur border. The interception of a country-made boat on the Barak River revealed narcotics and contraband hidden in a remote area of Jakuradhar.
The seized narcotics were reportedly smuggled from Churachandpur, Manipur, triggering further investigations. Previously, on October 9, Assam Police seized cough syrup worth Rs 2.16 crore, apprehending suspects Bapi Halder and Tapash Biswas. These seizures highlight efforts to curb narcotics trade in the region.
