Inpex Halts Key Vote at Ichthys LNG Project
Japan's Inpex unexpectedly canceled a crucial employment agreement vote for workers at Australia's Ichthys LNG project. The ballot was set for closure on Friday but was halted on Thursday. Workers are now preparing to decide next week whether to initiate strike action.
In a surprising move, Japan's Inpex has paused a pivotal vote on an employment agreement for workers at Australia's Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. The Offshore Alliance union reported the cancellation in a social media post on Friday.
The vote was originally scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m. on Friday (0800 GMT). However, it was abruptly called off late on Thursday, leaving workers and union representatives in uncertainty.
As a result, employees at the Ichthys facility are now set to vote next week on whether to embark on strike action, marking a significant development in the ongoing negotiations.
