Naga People's Front secretary general, Achumbemo Kikon, has called for an increase in local pork production in Nagaland, addressing a significant supply deficit. Speaking at a pork store's opening, Kikon highlighted the state's annual requirement of 60,000 tonnes of pork despite local production halving that number.
Kikon underscored the economic potential within the sector, urging educated, unemployed youth to consider entrepreneurship in pig farming. He emphasized pork's cultural importance and the need for hygienic production and consumption, cautioning that government job opportunities have plateaued.
Piggman's CEO, Manoj Kumar Basumatary, shared the brand's journey from a small farm to a prominent player, using advanced farming techniques adapted for local conditions. The company is expanding further to promote a regional brand nationally, aiming to enhance the pork value chain.
