PM Modi's Milestone Visit: Transforming Sikkim's Future

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a landmark visit to Sikkim on April 27-28, as confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday. He is scheduled to arrive in Gangtok on April 27 around 3 PM and will visit the Orchidarium the following day to emphasize the state's rich ecological and floral heritage.

On April 28, Modi will participate in the closing ceremony of Sikkim's 50th Year of Statehood at Paljor Stadium. During the event, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore across multiple sectors, aiming to foster holistic and inclusive development in the state.

Projects include the establishment of a 100-bedded Ayurveda Hospital and the inauguration of a 30-bedded Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital to enhance healthcare access. Educational initiatives, including new university campuses and IT-enabled infrastructure, are also on the agenda, along with developments in connectivity, power, and urban infrastructure to boost the region's growth.

Infrastructure development includes new steel arch bridges to bolster connectivity between Namchi and Gangtok districts and enhanced road networks. The power sector will see upgrades in transmission and distribution, while urban development projects promise improved housing and administrative infrastructure.

Tourism and pilgrimage sites are set for redevelopment, with significant investments in eco-tourism and pilgrimage infrastructure and the agro-processing sector. Cricket facilities for youth engagement and the inauguration of environmental protection schemes are also part of the comprehensive development plan.

This visit underscores the government's ongoing commitment to the sustainable development of Sikkim and the broader Northeast region, commemorating the state's Golden Jubilee year of statehood.
