Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has issued an urgent advisory as several districts in Maharashtra grapple with a severe heatwave. Speaking after the 23rd Maharashtra Mayor Council meeting, Tawde emphasized the need for citizens to stay hydrated, reduce sun exposure, and remain vigilant about their health amidst the rising heat.

The Council meeting marked a significant gathering after over four years, coinciding with recent municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra. Tawde took on the role of President, with Neeta Thakre from Nagpur serving as Vice President. Discussions included varied issues impacting municipal bodies statewide, showcasing a collaborative approach amid challenging weather conditions.

A yellow alert remains active across regions like Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Konkan, and Vidarbha due to escalating temperatures. While rains are expected in June, Tawde insists on immediate public health precautions to combat heat-related illnesses. The unrelenting heat has already influenced daily life significantly, urging adaptive measures like staying indoors, utilizing sun protection, and consuming hydrating foods and drinks.
