Himachal Pradesh is poised to dramatically enhance its renewable energy output, aiming to source over 90% of its annual 13,000 million unit energy consumption from sustainable sources. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has outlined ambitious plans, highlighting recent acceleration in small hydropower developments within the state.

Over the past three years, the state has initiated seven small hydropower projects with a collective capacity of 17.25 MW, completed 12 projects totaling 23.80 MW, and submitted 18 more projects, accumulating 47.90 MW, for approval. Additionally, various other strategic projects are either approved or under processing, reflecting robust expansion efforts.

In a progressive move, the state is also establishing extensive solar initiatives, including five solar parks with a combined capacity of 501 MW and numerous solar projects amounting to 212 MW. The adopted 'First Come, First Serve' policy ensures fair allocation, while the innovative Green Panchayat Programme aims to integrate local energy production and contribute to social welfare.
