In West Bengal, re-polling is underway in the Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour constituencies due to allegations of irregularities in the previous election phase. Remarkably, voter turnout by 9 a.m. on Saturday reached 16.68% in Magrahat Paschim and 15.83% in Diamond Harbour, signaling active civic engagement amidst heightened security measures.
The second phase of the elections had previously set records with a 92.67% turnout across 142 constituencies. Locals in Magrahat Paschim voiced their desires for changes in the region, emphasizing the need for improvements in education, infrastructure, and communal harmony—a sentiment echoed by voter Sushanta, who criticized local governance and called for substantial reform.
Further expressing concerns, voter Mader Mollah highlighted the absence of essential amenities like roads and healthcare, urging elected leaders to prioritize development and peace. Previously, BJP's Amit Malviya alleged voting obstructions against their candidates, intensifying the stakes for the upcoming results on May 4, where political heavyweights like TMC's Samim Ahamed Molla and BJP's Goursundar Ghosh feature prominently.
