The sharp increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, surging by Rs 993, has drawn strong condemnation from key political figures, including MDMK leader Vaiko and Congress's Rahul Gandhi. This exponential price hike, occurring within a single day, has amplified concerns over inflationary pressures looming over the domestic economy.
Vaiko criticized the price escalation, highlighting that within a span of two months, commercial cooking gas costs saw considerable upticks of Rs 144 and Rs 203 in previous increments. As a result, these changes have led the price to be fixed at Rs 3,239 for a 19 kg cylinder. The burgeoning costs have evidently disrupted the hospitality sector, affecting restaurants and consequently inflating food item prices.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi also took to the social media platform X to express his apprehensions, labeling the hike as the 'biggest increase in a single day.' He alerted the public to the potential for additional price increases, including petrol and diesel, that could further burden household finances and small businesses like tea stalls and bakeries, effectively impacting everyday living expenses.
