India Boosts LNG Storage Amid West Asia Supply Crisis
India plans to expand its LNG storage to counter supply disruptions from West Asia, highlighting the need for energy security. Petronet LNG CEO, A K Singh, announced the construction of seven tanks across multiple terminals. The expansion aims to maintain steady gas supplies amid geopolitical tensions.
India is intensifying efforts to expand its LNG storage capacity in response to disruptions in supply caused by the conflict in West Asia. The situation underscores the country's urgent need for enhanced energy security, according to the CEO of Petronet LNG, India's largest gas importer.
Petronet LNG Ltd plans to construct additional storage tanks across several terminals as part of its strategy to bolster reserves. This includes two tanks at Gopalpur in Odisha, one in Kochi, Kerala, and increased storage at Dahej, Gujarat. The projects, anticipated to take three years, aim to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.
The expansion comes amid halted LNG imports from Qatar due to geopolitical tensions. With LNG forms a significant portion of India's energy supply, the plans underscore the critical role of strategic reserves in maintaining stability during future crises.
