In a bold move to curb drug abuse, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveiled mandatory dope tests for 'chitta' or heroin across government job recruitments and educational admissions. The decision is part of an intensified campaign against narcotics in the hill state.
Following a Narco Coordination Centre meeting in Shimla, Sukhu detailed a statewide anti-drug movement utilizing the PIT-NDPS Act. The initiative, he stressed, goes beyond governance, becoming a widespread public effort to safeguard the state's future.
While drug-aware students will not be barred from learning, they will receive treatment and rehabilitation, realigning the state's zero-tolerance stance. Intensified law enforcement led to numerous arrests and seizures, and additional measures like categorizing panchayats by drug abuse levels and targeting properties linked to the narcotics trade are underway.
