In a significant development for Rajasthan's energy sector, the state's power distribution companies have successfully reduced their combined debt by Rs 1,352 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, an official statement confirmed.

This achievement comes as a result of stringent financial management strategies, including better revenue recovery mechanisms. The energy department, under the guidance of Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar, spearheaded these initiatives, resulting in the combined debt of the three DISCOMs dropping from Rs 97,970 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 96,618 crore in 2025-26.

Ajmer and Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigams played a crucial role in this success, reducing their debts by Rs 935 crore and Rs 644 crore, respectively. The improvement was facilitated by strict adherence to financial norms, enhanced recovery of dues, and the procurement of low-interest loans, translating into higher revenue realisation rates for all DISCOMs.
