Singapore is focused on bolstering its economy by attracting leading artificial intelligence firms and enhancing its status as a major energy hub, according to a government committee's recommendations presented on Wednesday. These strategies aim to counter global uncertainties and leverage AI for economic and workforce transformation.
Key recommendations include improving Singapore's value proposition by becoming more agile and adaptable. The city-state aims to attract anchor industries, particularly in semiconductors and emerging sectors like quantum and space technologies, drawing upon its existing strengths in advanced manufacturing and aerospace.
Singapore should further establish itself as a trusted hub for AI development and deployment while expanding capabilities in new energy domains such as liquefied natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia, and sustainable aviation fuels. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong emphasized the necessity of evolving beyond traditional strengths in his speech at a business federation conference.
