Hopeful ASHA: New Leadership and Renewed Promises
ASHA workers are optimistic about a change in their honorarium demands being met after meeting Kerala's Chief Minister-designate V D Satheesan. The workers, who had staged a 265-day protest last year, believe the new leadership will fulfill their call for increased wages and retirement benefits.

ASHA workers in Kerala, who conducted a prolonged 265-day protest last year for better compensation, recently met with Chief Minister-designate V D Satheesan. The workers are hopeful as Satheesan has previously expressed support for their demands.
The Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association (KAHWA) is seeking an honorarium hike to Rs 21,000 and a post-retirement benefit of Rs 5 lakh, demands previously rejected by the LDF government. Satheesan had assured them of support during his time as the Leader of the Opposition.
KAHWA leader Bindu expressed optimism after the meeting, as the association trusts that Satheesan will implement the promises made during the protest. Both supporters and former opposers of the movement hold out hope for a favorable outcome.
