IIT Guwahati Hosts 44th Astronomical Society Meeting, Welcoming Global Scientists

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati launched the 44th Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) with a formal ceremony, marking the return of this prestigious event to the Northeast after three decades. Over 600 astronomers, researchers, and students from around the world are attending the five-day conference.

The conference was last hosted in the region by Gauhati University in 1996. The inaugural event featured distinguished figures such as Prof Devendra Ojha, President of ASI, and Prof Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, alongside various other prominent experts in the field of astronomy.

Participants will engage in extensive discussions across 140 scientific talks and 355 poster presentations, covering topics like Sun systems, exoplanets, cosmology, and more. The gathering emphasizes the importance of fostering collaborations and encouraging young minds in the field of astronomy, notably within the Northeast community.
