Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated a project on Monday to establish a cluster-based coffee value chain in Nagaland. The initiative, part of the broader 'Coffees of Nagaland' mission, was officially launched in New Delhi.

The project involves creating pilot clusters for Arabica and Robusta coffee in Tuophema, Kohima, and Ghotovi, Niuland, respectively. It encompasses hi-tech nurseries, plantation expansion, washing stations, roastery-cafés, and a coffee quality control lab. The Rs 49.48 crore undertaking is set to uplift rural communities by creating a comprehensive value chain from cultivation to marketing.

Chief Minister Rio emphasized Nagaland's ambition to become a premium coffee-producing state, highlighting the project's contributions to sustainable livelihoods and coffee tourism. The state aims to cultivate 50,000 hectares by 2047 under the vision of Viksit Nagaland, with the project fostering value addition and youth employment in the coffee sector.
