Uttar Pradesh BJP president and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Tuesday said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the Indian economy were driven by ''disappointment, confusion and political frustration''.

Chaudhary asserted that India is among the world's fastest-growing economies and has achieved ''historic milestones'' in every sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi, who was on a visit to his Lok Sabha constituency of Raebareli, claimed that an ''economic shock'' not seen in the last many years is underway, and it will not hit ''Adani, Ambani or Modi'' but the youth, labourers and small traders.

''Very, very tough times are coming,'' the LoP told reporters.

In response, Chaudhary issued a statement alleging that Gandhi has been consistently trying to create fear and confusion among people, including youth, farmers and traders, while the reality is that India is moving ahead strongly even amid global economic uncertainties.

He said international institutions are appreciating India's economic progress, foreign investment is continuously rising, infrastructure development is taking place at a record pace, and new opportunities for employment and self-employment are being created for millions of youth.

''While the Modi government is working for the welfare of the poor, increasing farmers' income, strengthening MSMEs and promoting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Congress party is engaged only in negative politics,'' he alleged.

Chaudhary said Rahul Gandhi should understand that India is no longer a weakly governed country and is now standing on the global stage with confidence, capable of facing every challenge.

People have repeatedly rejected the Congress party's ''negative thinking and fear-mongering politics,'' he said.

The BJP leader further asked the Congress to develop the habit of taking pride in the country's achievements instead of spreading despair and confusion on every issue, and reiterated that the country's economy is strong, its leadership capable, and its future in safe hands.
