Delhi plans 'Vaman Van' to promote biodiversity awareness

The Delhi Forest Department is set to introduce a special interactive space called 'Vaman Van' to promote awareness about nature and different forms of biodiversity, officials said on Thursday.

According to senior forest department officials, the concept is aimed at creating an educational and experiential space where visitors, especially children and students, can learn about forests, plant life and ecological diversity engagingly.

The proposed 'Vaman Van' will feature dwarf and miniature plant species and is expected to come up in the western forest range over a relatively small area, the officials said.

''It is very important to educate people on different forms of nature. The idea behind the 'Vaman Van' is to create an interactive place where people can understand forests and biodiversity better,'' a senior official said.

The initiative is being planned as a compact yet informative green space that would allow visitors to closely observe different varieties of plants that are generally not seen in conventional parks or forest areas, the officials said.

The department believes that such awareness spaces can play a significant role in increasing public participation in environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.

''The need for this is to make sure that people understand nature better and develop a deeper connection with the environment,'' they added.

Details regarding the design, plant species, and public access arrangements for the Vaman Van project are expected to be finalised soon, the officials added.
