Jalna administration makes RC, AGRISTACK number must for buying diesel in cans

The Jalna district administration in Maharashtra on Friday directed petrol pump owners not to sell diesel in cans or other containers without checking the buyer's registration certificate (RC) and AGRISTACK or agricultural registry number.

Amid reports of fuel shortages, which the government has been denying, farmers are in a fix as petrol pump operators are not supposed to sell diesel or petrol in cans, and it is not economical to drive tractors to petrol pumps.

As per the latest order, farmers buying diesel in cans will have to submit a copy of the registration certificate of their tractors and their AGRISTACK numbers at the petrol pump.

If a farmer does not have an AGRISTACK number, they must submit their Aadhar card and the mobile number, the order stated.

Earlier, the district administration had asked all petrol pumps to reserve 5 per cent of the fuel stock for emergency services and government vehicles.

Maharashtra has recorded around 20 per cent rise in the sale of petrol and diesel in the first fortnight of May amid panic buying triggered by fears of possible disruption in fuel supplies due to the West Asia crisis, the state government said earlier in the day.

Despite the temporary spike in demand, fuel supplies remained uninterrupted and all demand was fully met, the government claimed.
