Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal visited the Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station at Birsinghpur in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday and reviewed its performance, coal quality management and environmental systems, officials said.

Agarwal inspected the coal-fired 1340-mega watt plant's operational efficiency and processes related to coal loading, sampling and testing, Swamy told PTI.

The union secretary held a review meeting with MPPGC Managing Director Manjit Singh and senior engineers. Singh gave a detailed presentation on coal loading, unloading, sampling and testing procedures and also briefed the official on coal washery operations and disposal systems.

The managing director highlighted issues related to coal quality and grade determination being faced by thermal power plants, officials said.

Agarwal assured necessary support to address concerns related to coal quality and grading, they added.

He also appreciated the fly ash management and disposal system adopted by the company and described the mechanism developed at Shri Singaji Thermal Power Plant as a model initiative.

Expressing satisfaction over the company's power generation performance, Agarwal said the generating units of MPPGC were operating with high efficiency and commitment.

The company's efforts towards quality-based operations and optimum utilisation of resources were noteworthy, he said.

During the visit, Agarwal, Singh and senior officials also planted saplings on the plant premises. The Union power secretary praised the greenery, cleanliness and management of the campus and termed it an example of sustainable and responsible industrial operations.
