In a groundbreaking step towards safeguarding women in the virtual sphere, the Ahmedabad Police have taken decisive action against cybercrime. Under their newly launched 'Mission Cyber Rakshika' initiative, authorities arrested Sumit Nemchand Sharma, a religious preacher from Delhi, for allegedly using artificial intelligence to forge a fake identity of a woman from Gujarat. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lavina Sinha highlighted the initiative's mission to protect women online and educate users about social media safety.

DCP Sinha announced during a media briefing that the Cyber Police are working tirelessly to hold cyber offenders accountable and foster a safer environment for women across digital platforms. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about online safety, following a complaint that flagged the creation of multiple fraudulent accounts using altered images and videos of the victim.

The investigation revealed that Sharma, aged 27, operated a religious preaching business and managed social media accounts reflecting his undertakings. A victim, who works as a social media influencer, initially interacted with him on religious topics. Their relationship, however, took a dark turn as Sharma allegedly overstepped boundaries. He created numerous fake accounts using AI to morph images and generate explicit content involving not only the victim but also her family members. After enduring several months of harassment, the victim reported the matter, leading to Sharma's arrest, marking a pivotal victory for 'Mission Cyber Rakshika.'
