Bus Tragedy in Haridwar: Pilgrimage Turns Fatal

A tragic accident near Shantikunj, Haridwar, left one pilgrim dead and several injured after a bus was hit by a dumper truck and overturned. The bus, part of a convoy, was returning from a holy dip in the Ganges. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a tragic development near Shantikunj in Haridwar, one pilgrim was killed and several others sustained injuries when their double-decker bus was struck from behind by a dumper truck. The bus, carrying a group predominantly of women, was returning from a holy visit to the Ganges.

According to Shishupal Singh Negi, CO City, Haridwar, the bus bore an Andhra Pradesh registration, although its owner hails from Nagaur, Rajasthan. The vehicle was part of a three-bus convoy. Negi explained that the accident occurred as the bus traveled on the highway near Tirsi Chowki, making its way toward Tors Chandi Chowki, when a dumper truck collided with it.

Rescue efforts were promptly launched, with police and emergency services rushing to the scene. Injured passengers were transported to local hospitals. Negi confirmed that the majority of the injured were women, with some suffering severe injuries, and regrettably, one passenger succumbed to her injuries. SDM Yogesh Mehra reported that 26 individuals are receiving medical care, and an investigation into the accident's cause is underway.
