Breakthrough in Combatting Antibiotic Resistance

Scientists at the BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against bacterial resistance to antibiotics, a burgeoning global health crisis. The institution announced the development on Wednesday.
The anti-resistance strategy involves targeting outer membrane proteins known as porins in pathogenic bacteria. By obstructing porin channels, researchers aim to compromise bacterial defenses and enhance antibiotic efficacy.
This international collaboration, detailed in the journal Small, involves experts from Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Funded by various Indian government entities, the study opens new paths for more potent antibiotic treatments.
