The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, has issued a directive for health department officials to maintain the existing protocol against waterborne diseases in vulnerable areas until Dusshera. This decision comes even as diarrhoea cases have started declining across six districts.

To date, 13 fatalities have been reported due to waterborne diseases, affecting a total of 3,892 people in districts including Jajpur and Cuttack. Notably, 3,543 patients have recovered, with 254 cases still under treatment, according to an official statement.

Majhi called upon the health department to continue facilitating medical services from primary health centres to medical colleges and urged for preventive measures in regions identified as high-risk. Inspections and sanitisation processes are underway to prevent further outbreaks, with an emphasis on raising public awareness.
