The Government of Odisha is set to establish nine new medical colleges across the state, as announced by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling. Among the planned institutions are four dental colleges, an Ayurvedic institute, and new MBBS colleges at specific districts.

The new medical colleges, with a capacity of 100 MBBS seats each at Phulbani in Kandhamal and Talcher in Angul, will commence operations from the current academic year. This move aims to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the state by increasing the number of trained doctors.

At the Healthcare Summit 2025, Minister Mahaling highlighted Odisha's efforts to expand its healthcare infrastructure. He revealed plans to recruit thousands of medical personnel and emphasized filling government vacancies. Sunil Gupta of CII Odisha State Council highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in advancing the state's healthcare sector.
