Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significance of AIIMS Gorakhpur, describing it as a vital lifeline for the healthcare of over 12 crore people in eastern Uttar Pradesh, neighboring Bihar, and parts of Nepal at the institute's inaugural convocation ceremony on Monday.
Addressing an audience that included President Droupadi Murmu and other dignitaries, Adityanath hailed AIIMS as a pivotal achievement that has revolutionized the region's healthcare landscape. The institution, a culmination of long-standing aspirations, now addresses the healthcare needs of more than five crore people directly, with an additional seven crore indirectly benefiting.
Reflecting on past challenges, Adityanath recounted the severe educational and healthcare deficits that plagued eastern Uttar Pradesh, notably the devastating encephalitis epidemic. Post-2014, significant efforts materialized with the establishment of AIIMS and a virology center, marking a new era for the region.
