Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has initiated an expert study into the alarming increase in heart attack cases reported in Hassan district. The investigation, prompted by 18 cases within a single month, will be conducted under the guidance of the Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.
The state's response includes the launch of the Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyothi Yojane, aimed at preventing sudden cardiac incidents. However, the recent surge among younger demographics has spurred calls for more comprehensive research. The minister highlighted changing lifestyles, dietary habits, and non-communicable diseases as factors contributing to the issue.
An expert committee, led by Dr. CN Ravindra, will focus on identifying the reasons behind the multiple cases and recommend preventive measures. District-wide ECG and blood pressure screening camps are planned, targeting rural areas, alongside awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and local governance bodies.
