The Indian government has announced the establishment of more than 200 Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) for the financial year 2025-26, according to Minister of State for Health, Prataprao Jadhav. This initiative includes 14 centres in Andhra Pradesh.
The Union Health Ministry, using cancer registry data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), conducted a national gap analysis and worked with states to identify high-burden districts. Proposals were refined by the National Programme Coordination Committee to ensure resource optimization and prevent redundancy.
The centres will primarily be set up in district hospitals, with potential to expand into other government health facilities based on feasibility. Funding will come from the State Resource Envelope of the National Health Mission, with costs per centre reaching up to Rs 1.49 crores.
