Federal Ruling Supports Planned Parenthood in Medicaid Funding Battle
A federal judge has ruled that Planned Parenthood clinics must continue receiving Medicaid reimbursements, counteracting the Trump administration's defunding efforts. The decision replaces a prior order and emphasizes the potential health risks of disrupting care, citing increased unintended pregnancies and untreated STIs due to limited healthcare access.

A federal judge has mandated that Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide continue to receive Medicaid reimbursements. This decision comes as the nation's largest abortion provider battles the Trump administration's attempts to cut its funding through tax legislation.
The ruling by US District Judge Indira Talwani supersedes a previous order from last week. Initially, Talwani had issued a preliminary injunction to prevent the federal government from stopping Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood facilities that neither provided abortion care nor met a yearly reimbursement threshold of USD 800,000.
Judge Talwani noted the health implications of restricting Planned Parenthood's services, warning that such actions could result in more unintended pregnancies and untreated sexually transmitted infections due to decreased contraceptive access.
