In a high-stakes medical operation, doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, successfully performed surgery on a 51-year-old woman diagnosed with uterine cancer and suffering from severe comorbidities like kidney failure and cardiac issues. The complex procedure involved a team of surgeons and onco-anaesthetists at the Institute of Rotary Cancer Hospital.
Professor Dr. M D Ray explained the patient's situation was deemed high-risk due to uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure, and other severe health conditions. The surgical team's well-coordinated efforts led to a successful staging laparotomy on July 21, 2025, involving radical hysterectomy and removal of potential cancer spread sites.
The operation lasted an hour without blood loss and maintained stable vital signs. Post-surgery care proved challenging but successful, with the patient showing remarkable resilience despite complications, including elevated serum creatinine, requiring ongoing dialysis. The patient was discharged on the fourth day following the operation.
