The European Commission is optimistic about substantial participation in its 150 billion euro Security Action for Europe (SAFE) fund, with expectations that at least 20 EU member states will apply for defence loans.

Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier expressed confidence that around 20 states would express interest, as reported on Tuesday.

To date, nine countries, including Belgium, Bulgaria, and Spain, have already shown formal interest, according to Regnier.
