In response to the recent tragedy at a civil hospital in Jalandhar where three patients died, Punjab's Health Minister Balbir Singh has taken decisive steps to enhance the state's healthcare system. The minister issued strict directives to ensure consistent oxygen and power supply in all critical care units.

Balbir Singh emphasized the necessity of 24-hour oxygen availability and functional backup systems during a high-level meeting with civil surgeons. He announced that around one thousand new doctors would join the workforce soon to improve healthcare quality, and stressed the importance of maintaining a buffer stock of essential medicines.

Furthermore, the Health Minister has empowered Senior Medical Officers to procure non-essential medicines to avoid shortages, and has introduced initiatives for advanced training of medical staff. This move, coupled with daily patient feedback collection, aims to enhance patient care and expedite services in OPDs.
