In a landmark decision, the Delhi government has approved an increase in stipends for nursing interns, marking the first revision in nearly three decades. The stipend will rise from a meager Rs 500 to a substantial Rs 13,150 per month.

This decision, reached during a recent cabinet meeting, is set to benefit approximately 180 nursing interns from three government-affiliated colleges: Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Health department officials highlighted the resolution as addressing a long-standing demand of nursing students.

Echoing sentiments of previous neglect, a government note asserts that the move aligns under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The increased stipend is seen as a step towards ensuring the respect and dignity of nursing interns, with a strategic aim to achieve pay parity with their MBBS counterparts.
