The Central Drugs Laboratories, in its monthly alert for July 2025, flagged 46 drug samples as not meeting standard quality criteria, according to health ministry officials.

State drug testing labs identified an additional 97 samples substandard. Continual regulatory surveillance reveals the list of non-standard and spurious drugs on the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) website monthly.

In July 2025, investigations revealed unauthorised manufacturers in Bihar and Ghaziabad had produced several spurious drug samples, warranting an ongoing investigation. This routine identification process, in cooperation with state regulators, aims to promptly withdraw substandard drugs from circulation.
