Mahatma Gandhi University's new facilities, the Small Animal House and the Amebic Research and Diagnostic Centre, are poised to significantly enhance biomedical research capabilities in Kerala. The initiatives address the urgent need for research and diagnostics concerning amoebic encephalitis, as the state grapples with a surge in cases.

The Small Animal House, set to be inaugurated by Higher Education Minister R Bindu, can house up to 4,000 small animals for research purposes. This state-of-the-art facility is only the second of its kind in Kerala and is critical for advancing animal-based biomedical studies.

The Amebic Research and Diagnostic Centre, to be inaugurated by Minister V N Vasavan, will focus on detecting pathogens responsible for amoebic encephalitis. Current testing facilities are limited, making this centre crucial for early detection and prevention of this often fatal infection.
