Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh has raised an alarm over the increasing HIV-positive cases in the state. He called for immediate action to curb the spread, tackle ignorance, and eliminate social stigma associated with the disease.
Khandu, who chaired the 3rd State Council on AIDS meeting, underscored the state's commitment to boosting awareness, prevention, and care for HIV patients. The meeting, attended by government officials and NGOs, addressed the rise in cases and the need to integrate strategies for HIV and substance abuse prevention.
According to the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, the state recorded 2,575 HIV-positive cases by March 31. Discussions at the meetings also focused on shifting the approach towards suppliers in the drug trade and enhancing rehabilitation efforts.
