The Madhya Pradesh government has taken swift action following the tragic deaths of 14 children in Chhindwara, allegedly linked to the consumption of a toxic cough syrup. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the suspension of two drug inspectors and a Deputy Director of the food and drug administration as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has prompted the state to transfer Drug Controller Dinesh Maurya to revamp oversight in the region. In a show of commitment to justice, the state has also formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter further.
Yadav visited the affected area, sympathizing with the families of the deceased, and assured no leniency for those responsible. The government has banned the sale of the cough syrup and commenced confiscation operations while also calling for a comprehensive review of other medicines in the area.
