KERALA: Two elderly women died on Sunday due to snakebites, increasing the recent fatality count to seven in the state. Nafeesa, 65, from Muthkuda, died in Thaliparamba following a venomous snakebite, while Vishalakshi, 75, from Kanjar in Idukki, also succumbed. Several others remain hospitalized.
Police identified Nafeesa after she was found unconscious at home. Despite being treated with anti-venom, she did not survive. An investigation is underway. Vishalakshi was bitten while working outside her house and succumbed swiftly, police reported.
The alarming rise in snakebite incidents, compounded by soaring temperatures, has raised public concern. The state government declared its support for a 10-year-old boy requiring snakebite treatment after his brother's death from a similar incident.
