A man in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district lost his life, and his son remains in critical care after allegedly consuming watermelon, the local police reported on Saturday. The tragedy comes shortly after four family members in Mumbai similarly perished from suspected poisoning.
The deceased, Indra Singh Parihar, was prominent in the transport industry in Sheopur and had initially felt unwell alongside his son Vinod after having pumpkin curry the prior evening. In an attempt to relieve their discomfort around dawn, they ate slices of watermelon from their home.
Indra and Vinod soon fell seriously ill and were rushed to a hospital, with Indra dying en route to a specialized facility. Meanwhile, an ongoing forensic investigation revealed the presence of zinc phosphide, a rat poison, in previous deaths' linked watermelon, highlighting a potential health risk.
