TrumpRx Expands: Over 600 Affordable Generics Added to Government Website
TrumpRx.gov, launched by President Trump, now features over 600 generic drugs including atorvastatin and metformin, aiming to make prescription medications more affordable. The website, part of Trump’s plan to align U.S. drug prices with other nations, provides discounted drug links but doesn't sell directly.
President Donald Trump announced the expansion of TrumpRx.gov, a government-supported platform featuring discounted prescription drugs, to include over 600 generic medications. These include widely used drugs such as atorvastatin for cholesterol and metformin for diabetes.
Launched in January, TrumpRx initially listed only branded drugs. The expansion is part of Trump's initiative for most-favored-nation pricing, aimed at lowering U.S. drug costs to those in developed nations. The site functions as a referral platform rather than a direct sales channel.
The administration secured agreements with 17 major pharmaceutical companies to align U.S. prices with international levels, anticipating $64.3 billion in savings over the next decade. Despite the site targeting uninsured consumers, current price comparisons indicate they are not yet lower than those in the United Kingdom.
