An eight-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a water park in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district, police said on Monday.
The caretaker of the facility has been arrested.
The incident took place two days ago at a water park located in Bhasrala village, police said.
According to officials, the victim, identified as Hasnain, son of Zafar Alvi, had gone to the water park with his uncle when the incident occurred.
Police said the family had buried the body after the child's death. However, after the boy's father returned from Delhi and lodged a complaint, the administration exhumed the body and conducted a postmortem examination.
Superintendent of Police (City) Abhishek Kumar Singh said an administrative inquiry found that the swimming pool was under construction and operating without permission.
Despite lacking official approval and safety arrangements, people had been using the facility for swimming, he said.
Following the inquiry, the district administration sealed the premises with immediate effect.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased child's father, police registered a named FIR and arrested the water park's caretaker, identified as Nadeem, officials said.
Police added the owner of the water park is currently away on Haj.
