Ebola Scare in Bengaluru Ends in Relief
A Ugandan woman in Bengaluru tested negative for Ebola after being quarantined on suspicion of having the virus. This follows a review meeting led by India's Health Minister. Despite the scare, preventive measures have been heightened as India postpones the India-Africa Forum Summit over health concerns.
A Ugandan woman, suspected of carrying the Ebola virus, tested negative, confirmed India's health ministry on Wednesday. The woman, quarantined in Bengaluru, showed mild symptoms but no conclusive signs of the virus.
The news arrives after Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reviewed the nation's preparedness against the disease, which WHO has labeled an international health emergency. If confirmed positive, this would have been India's first Ebola case since 2014.
Precautionary measures have been enforced at airports and other entry points in India, as health authorities issue travel advisories. The India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi has been postponed due to rising health concerns in Africa. WHO reports 101 confirmed Ebola cases globally, with no vaccine or treatment available.
