The latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) highlights a significant increase in digital access among Indian women, with nearly two-thirds now using the internet. This marks a dramatic rise from 33.3% during the 2019-2021 period to 64.3% for 2023-2024. The findings signal substantial progress in women's digital inclusion.

According to the survey, there has also been a noticeable rise in the percentage of women with banking or savings accounts, climbing to 89% from 78.6% reported in the previous survey. Similarly, ownership of personal mobile phones has increased from 53.9% to 63.6%. These advancements reflect broader trends in financial empowerment and connectivity for women.

The report notes improvements in menstrual hygiene practices among women aged 15 to 24, supported by schemes like the Menstrual Hygiene Scheme and the availability of affordable sanitary products under the Janaushadhi program. However, it also points to emerging health challenges, such as non-communicable diseases, underscoring the necessity for preventive healthcare and balanced nutrition strategies.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the International Institute for Population Sciences in Mumbai, conducted the survey covering 6.79 lakh households. This comprehensive data supports evidence-based decision-making and program implementation at the district level, advocating continued focus on health improvements in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.
