The recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Iran is hailed as "good news" by Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs. She emphasized that this is the right moment for all involved parties to return to negotiations, urging calm and a halt to violence to prevent further escalation.
Kallas highlighted the fragile nature of the ceasefire, asserting, "The EU stands in solidarity with all those affected," including Qatar, which witnessed recent turmoil. She stressed that negotiations should resume, naming this a pivotal moment for regional peace, and vowed to continue her mediation efforts.
The ceasefire follows a tense episode where the U.S. announced an agreement after Iranian strikes on American bases, which were a response to U.S. assaults on Iran's nuclear facilities. Despite this, hostilities continued with Israeli and Iranian retaliatory attacks. U.S. President Trump criticized the continuation of aggression, and after talks with Israeli PM Netanyahu, Israel paused further actions.
