In a recent statement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar dismissed assertions by former US President Donald Trump, who claimed he utilized trade to force India and Pakistan to reach a ceasefire. This development follows the heightened tensions between the two nations after India's Operation Sindoor.
Jaishankar clarified that he was present during the May 9 telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President JD Vance. Vance warned that Pakistan would launch a massive assault if India did not comply with certain demands. Modi, however, stood firm, indicating a swift response from India. This was followed by Pakistan's attack, to which India retaliated promptly.
Further dismissing Trump's claims, Jaishankar emphasized the professionalism of trade negotiations, stating no impact on the ongoing discussions.
