Brazilian Ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, highlighted a strong alignment between Brazil and India on key global issues, particularly concerning United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms. He emphasized that both countries aim for permanent membership in the council.

On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, da Nobrega stressed the necessity of reforming the UNSC to better represent emerging economies. He noted that large developing countries now play a crucial role in the global economy, demanding a relook at the UNSC's structure and operation to reflect the new multipolar world order.

Beyond UNSC reforms, the Ambassador discussed Brazil's initiatives within BRICS to improve trade through local currencies and innovative payment methods, aiming not at de-dollarisation but providing diversified transaction alternatives. He also highlighted potential defense collaborations, including a possible sale of India's Akash air defense systems and cooperative management of Scorpène submarines.

Da Nobrega recognized India's advanced digital payment systems, such as UPI, as a model for Brazil, which seeks to enhance its own digital infrastructure. He noted the importance of learning from India's integration of digital governance across different levels.

The Ambassador underscored the booming business relations between the two nations, bolstered by numerous business missions and a shared goal of reaching a USD 20 billion trade exchange. Prime Minister Modi, currently on a five-nation tour, will attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil, aiming to solidify these economic interconnections.
