A violent attack on a young Indian man in Adelaide has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for tougher action against racially motivated violence. Charanpreet Singh, 23, was assaulted after a group of men allegedly launched a racist verbal attack, which escalated into a physical assault over a car parking row.
The confrontation, which occurred near Kintore Avenue on Saturday night, left Singh hospitalized with severe injuries. He recounted the harrowing incident to 9News, saying he was subjected to racial abuse before being repeatedly punched and left unconscious on the roadside.
Police have apprehended a 20-year-old suspect from Enfield, charging him with assault causing harm, but are still searching for other assailants. The attack has alarmed Adelaide's Indian community, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of international students in Australia. South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the incident as unacceptable.
