Tibetan Leader Urges Global Youth to Uphold Cultural Heritage and Advocacy

In a recent gathering in Dharamshala, Sikyong Penpa Tsering addressed approximately 60 Tibetan students from overseas, highlighting the necessity of understanding their historical and cultural identity. He stressed that knowledge of Tibetan history and politics is vital for effectively advocating the Tibetan cause on an international scale. As reported by the Central Tibetan Administration on July 21, 2025, Tsering stated, 'Hope is what we ultimately yearn for.'
Sikyong underscored the critical role of historical knowledge in protecting one's identity and struggle, urging students to back the Central Tibetan Administration's Middle Way Approach for a peaceful resolution to the Sino-Tibetan conflict. He urged the youth to engage in solidarity initiatives and advocacy efforts within their host countries, emphasizing their role in preserving Tibetan heritage and furthering the freedom movement.
He acknowledged the 14th Dalai Lama's relentless advocacy that has sustained international recognition and support for the Tibetan issue. Tsering emphasized the responsibility of Tibetans in exile to continue this advocacy globally. Moreover, he encouraged students to deepen their understanding of global geopolitical dynamics and their relevance to the Tibetan cause. The students at the meeting comprised participants from Europe and the U.S. attending a Cultural Immersion Summer Course at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, along with a group from Belgium's Tibetan Language and Culture School on an educational tour of Dharamshala.
