The death toll in Diamer district of Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan has risen to six following devastating flash floods, according to government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq. Teams are vigorously searching for missing visitors in Babusar Valley, an operation further complicated by days of relentless rain.
The floods have exposed the severe impacts of climate change. On Monday, flash floods claimed four lives and left 15 missing. The disaster wreaked havoc in Ghanche district, damaging homes and infrastructure across several areas. Similarly, in Rawalpindi, retired Colonel Ishaq Qazi's body was found after his vehicle was swept into a drain; his daughter remains missing.
As monsoon season strikes annually, Pakistan experiences significant floods and landslides. Recently, over 60 fatalities were reported in Punjab, prompting emergency measures. Despite challenges, Rescue 1122 successfully evacuated 40 trapped individuals in Attock district, demonstrating the ongoing efforts as communities grapple with nature's fury.
