The Ministry of External Affairs announced the postponement of Indian national Nimisha Priya's execution in Yemen, scheduled for July 16, due to diligent diplomatic efforts by the Indian government. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that misinformation regarding the case is widespread, urging the public and media to rely only on verified updates.

In response to inquiries, Jaiswal confirmed the government's active role in offering assistance to Priya and her family, including appointing a lawyer familiar with Yemen's Sharia law. The Indian government continues to work with local authorities and international partners to seek a favorable outcome. Reports suggesting complete overturning of her sentence were deemed inaccurate.

Nimisha Priya, a 37-year-old nurse from Kerala, was convicted for the murder of her business partner in 2017, with the Supreme Judicial Council in Yemen upholding her death sentence in 2023. The Indian government remains engaged in ongoing negotiations and legal support, facilitating consular visits and seeking a mutually agreeable resolution.
